Lake Bolac Area & Attractions
Lake Bolac is centrally located on the Glenelg Highway in close proximity to:
- Melbourne – two hours
- Ballarat and Warrnambool – one hour
- Hamilton and Halls Gap – 50 minutes
- Dunkeld, Mortlake and Ararat – 30 minutes
Farming and tourism are the main industries of the district and now that the lake is full, aquatic sports are back in full swing and the fish and eels will soon be plate size.
Recreational activities in Lake Bolac include tennis, golf, bowls, squash, solar heated swimming pool, cricket, football and netball and a children’s playground. Explore the heritage trail at the town centre – plaques showing historical points around town are detailed on a self-guided walk brochure.
The largest short-finned eel caught in the lake can be seen at the hotel. The Lake Bolac Eel Festival is held each March on the foreshore.
The Information and Business Center has a great selection of local products, handcrafts and other items for sale. The building also houses the Bendigo Bank office and ATM.
The Lake Bolac College is a P-12 school, there is also a kinder, supermarket, milk bar, Aussie Wool Quilts (used in Pete’s Place), hotel, mechanical services, farm supplies, hardware, post office, police station and bush nursing centre. Self contained cottage accommodation with all the essential facilities.
